BEHIND
THE BAD.
The untold business anatomy of BAD LAB.
A Malaysian men's grooming brand with an unconventional identity. We unpack the origins, ownership, sister brands, growth signals and the commercial playbook behind the label.

MADE IN
MALAYSIA.
BAD LAB is a Malaysian men's personal-care brand, launched in 2014 and developed through a notably different approach to brand creation.
Not just another grooming label.
BAD LAB — short for Brave & Daring Laboratory — entered a crowded category with deliberately bold packaging, product naming and a practical proposition tailored to men. Its original product range spanned 19 items.[01]
Its “Man-Gineered” positioning rejects the conventional clean, understated beauty aesthetic and embraces playful, industrial visual cues.[06]
The company behind the trademark.
Trademark records identify L&S Cosmetics and Toiletries (M) Sdn. Bhd. as the owner of the BAD LAB mark, registration no. 4933365 in the US.[03]
L&S was incorporated on 16 November 1992 under company registration no. 199201021188 (252692-W). Its listed business activities include manufacturing and wholesaling shampoo, cosmetics and toiletries.[04]
THE ORIGIN
STORY.
BAD LAB came out of a brand-invention exercise that connected creative strategy with product formulation and retail ambition.
Market launch with 19 products
Campaign Asia reports on the brand in August 2014, including Caveman Cleaner 3-in-1 — shampoo, face wash and body wash in one bottle.[01]
International trademark record
The US trademark application is filed on 3 October 2014; registration follows on 5 April 2016. The current owner listed in the record is L&S.[03]
Broader portfolio becomes visible
A Malaysian export-oriented company profile lists personal-care brands marketed by L&S, including BAD LAB, Good Virtues Co. and Summerie. This is a historical portfolio snapshot, not proof of their current legal ownership or operating status.[05]
ONE COMPANY.
THREE LABELS.
Corporate records and a 2021 company profile show that the BAD LAB story extends beyond a single consumer-facing brand.

BAD LAB
Men's grooming, hair, face and body care. Distinctive industrial-masculine positioning.
Trademark verified
Good Virtues Co.
Beauty and personal care with a halal positioning, notably for Muslim women.
Trademark verified
Summerie
Listed in L&S's 2021 brand portfolio; currently maintains a consumer-facing product website.
2021 portfolioTHE BRAND
PLAYBOOK.
Practicality, high visual contrast and ownable product names are central to the BAD LAB proposition.
Product image: ProductNation Malaysia / illustrative fallbackPackaging that refuses to blend in.
Matte black, metallic copper and aggressive visual motifs make BAD LAB instantly distinctive versus more conventional grooming lines.[06]
One product. Multiple use cases.
The original Caveman Cleaner 3-in-1 directly addresses the problem of complicated grooming routines and too many separate bottles.[01]
Product names as brand assets.
Caveman Cleaner, Battle Repair and other themed names carry the brand's personality onto retail shelves and social channels.
GROWTH,
NOT GUESSWORK.
Historic growth signals are public. A defensible percentage of Malaysian market share is not.
Growth cited in WARC's 2020 case study.
HISTORIC · NOT 2026 SALES[06]
Reported increase over a little more than one year in the WARC case study.
HISTORIC · NOT TODAY'S AWARENESS[06]

HISTORIC · NOT 2026 DISTRIBUTION[06]
Context matters. These figures are attributed to the WARC case study published on 23 April 2020. They do not describe 2026 revenue, current sales growth, current market penetration or a share of Malaysia's grooming market.
How much of the market does BAD LAB own?
Euromonitor publishes company- and brand-share tables for men's grooming in Malaysia, but the freely accessible report does not expose a verified BAD LAB percentage. The current report includes historical company and brand-share tables, with the full data available in the paid edition.[07]
VERIFIED.
MORE THAN
PACKAGING.
BAD LAB benefits from an operating environment spanning product development, corporate manufacturing experience, retail and export.
Manufacturing base
L&S's registered activities include production and wholesale of cosmetics and toiletries; historical company materials also outline production capability.[04][05]
R&D capabilities
Company literature cites research capability and work with international laboratories to develop product ranges.[05]
Retail presence
Documented listings with major retailers and current catalogue availability support an established store-based and online route to market.[06][11]
Export opportunity
The brand has a documented historical export footprint, while local retail saturation and regional demand remain areas to measure separately.[06]
THE FOUR-SIDE
VIEW.
A research-informed SWOT: an analytical interpretation, not a company filing or management statement.
- High-contrast, memorable visual identity and themed naming
- Product convenience and accessible mass-market positioning
- Manufacturing heritage, multi-category portfolio and retail channels
- Heavily masculine tone may constrain broader audience appeal
- Multi-purpose products may be less relevant for specialist skincare users
- Publicly available brand-level financial disclosure is limited
- Growing interest in men's appearance and specialist grooming routines
- Cross-selling across face, hair, body and styling categories
- Digital commerce, regional retail distribution and new formats
- Multinational competitors with extensive brand and trade budgets
- Price competition and promotion intensity in mass retail
- Changing aesthetics and increasing demand for efficacy-led claims
Analysis informed by historic BAD LAB positioning and published Malaysian grooming-market commentary. Future outcomes are not predicted. [06][07]
BAD LAB shows what happens when product thinking, brand identity and distribution are built to work together — not as separate afterthoughts.
Its story is commercially compelling because it combines a differentiated consumer proposition with verifiable trademark and industry records. Its precise present-day sales and market share, however, remain unverified from free public sources.
